Type Ctrl-F, to find precisely
where, on this page only, a word or phrase appears. This can
be useful after Google has reported only what page your term is
on.)
To
further aid navigation, some of the larger pages contain a list, outline
or index, of main category links at the top, and blinking
"back-to-top arrows" sprinkled throughout the detailed
content (usually to the far right of it), that look like this:
In short, category links drop you down to the relevant detail, and blinking
arrows lift you back up to those category links (or to
the top of the page)--ultimately allowing you to "jump up and
down" desired parts of the page with the greatest of ease.
(Give them a try!)

As policy researchers (and consultants to managers, policy analysts,
scholars, and others--even graduate students as we once were), we at FooteWorks.US (Tom Foote and
colleagues) thrive on transforming thorny problems into client-friendly,
cost-effective, solutions; lemons into lemonade; big threats into fun
rides...
| ...swelling, crashing, threats... |
...into
focus, flow, fun rides--and, ultimately, happy clients |
|

|

|
Typically, those problems might involve any of
the following:
- quantitative and qualitative
research
- economics, finance, and
policy analysis,
- strategic planning,
- leadership theory and practice
- technology help and training for
leaders
We serve:
- businesses, large and small
- government at all levels
(especially education, health, and human service groups)
- non-profit organizations
- advocacy teams
- individuals.
We can mine and combine data (e.g., from surveys, interviews, your
existing data sets, etc.) to discover and present (via advanced graphic
display and visualization methods), patterns vital to improved
brainstorming, vision, direction, policy development, strategic
planning--and action.
We thrive on those "Aha!" moments, and the often bumpy road
to achieving them--seeking new and valuable patterns, linkages and
solutions--while nurturing ideas, old and new, solo, with each other, or
within teams and large groups. We love brainstorming, riding waves
of synergy among colleagues and clients, creating, synthesizing, "consensusizing"--then
writing, consulting, teaching and speaking about it in ways that best
serve clients. We strive to do that with focus, flow, effectiveness,
fulfillment, and fun (see Surfing? FooteWorks?)--influenced
in varying degrees by these Philosophies.
Beyond the usual "see the big picture," "think outside
of the box," and, "connect the dots" (or, perhaps, enlarge,
or compress them so they automatically connect themselves)--we
strive, most of all, to deliver high-integrity, on-time, on-budget,
cost-effective, solutions--all, in turn, to produce satisfied clients--our
overarching goal.
While we have taught (within universities at
undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. levels), and consulted for years, our
greater strengths lie in capacities to simply listen intently, care
deeply, and just help real people solve messy problems--to probe, then
combine and adapt existing methods, brainstorm new ones, and perhaps even
originate and realize whole new approaches, especially toward the uncommon
problems (which in our experience, are much more common than text
book problems and cookie cutter solutions). Solving the uncommon
problem typically involves carefully listening to those closest to that
problem and perhaps some formal systematic research (maybe even study
design, surveys, focus groups, statistical analysis, etc.). It may
also involve economic research; policy analysis; strategic planning (and
strategic thinking and action); leadership training;
training related to Systems Empowerment for
Executives (SEE) --and, training in all the above. That
said, we're also always eager to stretch into the atypical,
uncharted waters of "extreme" projects and challenge.
